Eat. 1-31-28 Tryon Boys’ Club to Start Its Sixth Season’s Work On Monday, June I7th The Tryon Boys’ Club will start work for this season on Monday, June 17th, under the leadership of M3aj. W. A. S'chilletter. All boys interested in joining the Club this summer are asked to come to the school building at 9:30 Mfonday morning. The club was started six years ago under the leadership of Dr. George F. Taylor. It was plan ned and organized by Dr. Taylor who operated it in a highly effi cient manner for a period of three years. Due to other duties it was necessary for Dr. Taylor to give up this part of his work. Mr. Schilletter has been in charge of the club for the past two sum mers. During the five years the club has accomplished wonderful rasults. The many fine features of club are carried over in train ling into the future life of the y Tryon boys. The purposes of the club are to build strong character in our boys, encourage true sportsmanship and fair play in all games and activi ties, develop physically strong bodies, furnish amusements, and give training in handicraft work. During the last five summers the results accomplished have been wonderful. Very careful attention and care will be given to each individual bov in character building ( de veloping leadership, self control, responsibility and co - operation. N C„ TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 1940 Dr. Edgar Ballenger Wins Fame For Instrument Dr. Edgar G. Ballenger, brother of C. W. Ballenger of Tryon and native of this city, who is already noted for his medical research work hag made another great step in medical progress by his part in a new invention as described in the following clipping: “A method for making color pic tures of the inside of the human body—expected to be a step of great importance in modern sur gery—has been perfected by three Atlanta physicians, it is announced in the current issue of The South ern Surgeon. “‘The three physicians, Dt. Edgar G. Ballenger. Dr. Harold P. Mc- Donald and Dr. Reese C. Coleman, explained in the article how they have adapted a miniature color camera to a cvstoscope, one of the four types of telescopes used to explore the body’s interiors, and had made color photographs of the inside of the bladder. * “It is thought possible the cam era, made by an eastern firm, might eventually be adapted to in struments used for examination of the interior of the head, lungs and stomach. “The new method makes it pos sible to peer into the bodv cavi ties through a series of lenses ar ranged in a flexible tube which h°s a tiny electric bulb on the end.
