Mrs. Tom Gannon
Mrs. Dozia Thompson Cannon,
widow of the lat» Tom Cannon,
prominent Lynn merchant, died
early this morning' at St. Luke’s
hospital where she was carried on
Sunday after a stroke suffered at
her home on last Wednesday.
Funeral plans were not complete
at press time but services will
probably be held on Wednesday
afternoon at the Columbus Baptist
church. The deceased is survived
by the following children: Walter,
Albert, Sara and Edna; also three
brothers, former Sheriff G. L.
Thompson, Miack and Columbus
Thompson, all of Saluda, and one
sister, Mrs. David Hipp, of Char
lotte.
Tryon Golfers Hosts To
Lake Lure Thursday
The Tryon Country Club golf
x team will be hosts to Lake Lure
Club on Thursday after-
Broon for a tournament with the
Lake Lure team of the Piedmont
Golf League. All Tryon go’fers
are expected to be present to greet
the Lake Lure team.
To Pave Road Soon
The Asheville Paving Company
crew has arrived in Tryon and
work of paving the new road to the
State line is expected to begin
early next week.
Softball Today
The Bushwhackers will play
Foumereo today at 6:30 at Harmon
Field. Public invited. No charges.

Association For
War Relief
There is daily evidence that the
people oi this district are lending
their efforts towards making the
canning project for the benefit of
the Allied War Sufferers a suc
cess. Volunteer workers are enroll
ing with Mrs. Harkness Smith and
pledging their services for what
ever work they may be called up
on to do when the enterprise gets
under way.
In response to letters sent out
by Dudley Shiith, treasurer, sev
eral donations have already been
received and many others have
been pledged. The American Can
Company has indicated its desire
to cooperate by contributing 1,000
cans free on the order for 5,000
cans placed with it by the com
mittee.
For the benefit of those who
may have missed the June 20 issue
of The Bulletin and the June 21
issue of The Polk County News,
the committee again urges all
farmers, orchard and garden own
ers to leave at the Ice Plant, on
the Asheville road, Tryon, on Sat
urday, July 6th, Or any date there
after, whatever surplus they may
have of the following: String
beans, tomatoes, apples, peaches,
pears and berries.
