Helms Announces Tax Discount This Month In an advertisement in Tues day’s Bulletin, Town Manager, C. H. Helms gives notice of the two per cent discount taxpayers can make by paying their Town of Tryon taxes this week. On taxes amounting to SIOO taxpayers will save $2 by paying this week. Big Plans For Fourth Over 3,000 cups have arrived in Tryon for the lemonade and ice Ayjjter to quench the thirst of the Hrjitors at Harmon Field on July fourth. To take care of this ex pense C. J. Lynch, playground chairman, will be glad to accept donations from all public spirited citizens interested. Among the features of entertain ment for the Fourth are baseball games in the afternoon between Adams-M'illis and Brevard; Roy Shelley and his trick horse and dogs, Carroll Rogers in charge of horse shoe pitching, C. H. Helms in charge of archery, Dr. J. E. Derby in charge of music. C. M. Eargle and J. E. Brownlee in charge of refreshments. C., WED., JUNE 26, 1940 57 Houses Receiving Paint, Improvements One of the biggest scale im provements made in Tryon with in the past few weeks is the paint ing of 57 houses of the Southern Mercerizing Co., at Soumerco. Un like many industrial communities the houses are not being painted the same color. They have that 57 variety look. Each home has its own setting on a hill, in a valley, beside a brook, or nestled in a cove and painted attractively to fit its surrounding. If it is a log. house it is stained. There are tints of various shades. Manv of the homes have flowers and other decorations. New roofs, por ches, steps and other repairs are being* made where needed. And all the homes without electricity are being wired for this modern con venience. On Tuesday a tour of farm women of the County visited the community and enjoyed a visit through the mercerizing mill. BIG DIVIDENDS PAID LOCAL INVESTORS Nearly $4,000 was paid out in dividends this week to inv.s*ors in the Tryon Federal Sav’nes & Loan Association, according to an adver tisement in Tuesday’s Bulletin. The semi-annual dividends due on June 30th, but already in the mail rep resent a 4% return on an invest ment of approximately $250,000 made by 149 people. Secretary M. R. McCown states that as small amount as $1 is all that is nece - sary to start a saving account wilh the local institution. 1C PER COPY
