Tryon Golfers Win From
Lake Lure
Tryon golfers .were hosts to the
Lure club on Thursday after
■hoon and won the tournament by
total score of 29 y 2 to 27%. The
team score was 9 to 3 in favor of
Tryon as follows: Dan Rion and
Edward Sayre, 3 vs Arnold Black
and S. Edwards, 0; Marion Palmer
and Baxter Haynes, 2 vs, A. War
ner and J. Simpson, 1; B. Arledge

4th as previously planned.
Mrs. Nancy Bradshaw
Mirs. Nancy Bradshaw, 84, died
% this morning about 10 o’clock at
the home of her son, E. B. Brad
shaw at Lynn. Funeral services
will be held on Saturday after
noon atj the Tryon Second Baotist
church with the nastor, the Rev.
Mialcolm Ross, officiating. Mrs.
Bradshaw is survived by two sons.

Adams - Millis To Play
Ecusta On Saturday
The big cigarette paper team
Ecusta, from Brevard, will come
to Tryon on Saturday to play the
strong Adams-Millis silk team at
Harmon Field at 3:30. A win
over Ecusta will put the local
Adams-Millis team a game near the
league leading Enka which was
cut down a game this week when
the club lost to fourth place Bre
vard. Adams-Millis is now in a tie
for second place and growing
stronger each week.
Tax To Prevent Attacks
Taxes for the purpose of rais
ing funds to pay for national de
fence will begin on July 1. Many
luxuries will be affected. Adult
admissions at the Tpyon Theatre
will be raised from 25c to 30c to
take care of the federal tax on
theatre admissions. The federa l
tax on cigarettes will be increased
one-half cent on a package. Al!
dealers will be required to take
stock of their merchandise on then
shelves and floors and make ar
accurate count to put on an official
blank which they are to get from
the collector of internal revenue.
Each cigarette dealer should mak ■
immediate request for such blank in
order to avoid severe pena’ties for
failure to make prompt return.

The total received by the Polk
County Chapter of the American
Red Cross for War Relief is now
$1,787.09, according to the chairman
