Est. 1-31-28 Group Meets Tonight The Polk County Rehabilitation organization will meet tonight at .8 o’clock at Mjssildine’s Hall for jfehe purpose of completing the or ganization. At a meeting, held June 11th, at State Prison Camp, Spindale, com posed of representative citizens from Polk, Cleveland, Gaston, Mc- Dowell and Rutherford counties, and presided over by Rev. L. A. Watts, Director of Religious Train ing, Central Prison, Raleigh, steps were taken to set up a Prisoner Rehabilitation Bureau in each of the counties represented. These bureaus will be organized in every county in the State. The objective is to reduce the number of persons who are being tried and convicted in our courts; to give encouragement and oppor tunity to discharged prisoners and their families; to attend church, to seek employment, and to keep the ch : ldren in school. The plan, as voutlined by Dr. W'atts, has the en- Jdorsement of Governor Clyde R. Hoey, Hon. Frank L. Dunlap, Chair man of the State Highway and Pub lic Works Commission, and manv othe r leading officials and promi nent citizens of our great Common wealth. At the Spindale meeting Rev. Edward M. Graham was selected chairman and Miss Ina T. Tyler, secretary of the organization for Polk County. Dr. Allen Jervey, Jr., has ar rived from New Orleans, La. where he has sensed an internship at the Charity Hospital and will practice medicine in Tryon. Dr. and Mrs. Jervey are occupying the Hutch?r son house on Melrose avenue. TRYON, N. C., TUESDAY, JULY 2, 1940 Big Increase In Bank Resources Reported The statement of the Tryon Bank & Trust Co., published in to day’s Bulletin shows an increase of approximately SIOO,OOO compared with the same period ,last year. The total resources todate are list ed at $609,844.11 with deposits amounting to over half a million dollars. Dr. Whims Leaving Dr. H. C. Whims of the Ruth erford-Polk Health Department leaves the unit on July 15th to take over the health work in the Catawba-Lincoln County district. Since Dr. Whims has been the county doctor for this unit the health program in Polk County has made tremendous strides. His suc cessor has not been named. Big Day for Fourth Plans are going forward for a big day on July 4th. Two baseball games are on the program. The greased pole has been cut and skinned. The bafrel ride has been made and everything points to a full day of fun which is free to every person in this section. Bring your basket lunch for dinner and supper and make a day of it f at Harmon Field. Poles for lighting the field for the square dancing have also been put up. The larg est crowd ever seen in Polk Countv at on time enjoyed the fun at Har moh Field last year, and there will be new wrinkles and new sports this year.
