Est. 1-31-28 HEALTH REPORT The Rutherford - Polk District Health Department has just com pleted and received reports on the Pyioroscope clinic held in the Health department office last week. Dur ing this clinic ninety-three people received fluoroscopic examination of the chest for tuberculosis. Some of these .were old cases of tuber culosis brought in for reexamin ation. All of the others either had symptoms of tuberculosis or had been in contact with the disease. Seventy-seven were found to be negative to tuberculosis. One far advanced case, and nine early cases of tuberculosis were found. During this clinic many were examined who had children or small brothers and sisters with childhood tuberculosis. These chil dren were found with the disease by means of the X-ray clinics he’d during the past two years by the Health Department. Kiwanis Tuesday James Elvin Brownlee had change of the Tryon Kiwanis Club program on Tuesday and gave an interesting outline of the develop ment of the grocery business in cluding. ,a quiz on the meaning of grocerv terms, the history of cer tain foods, "etc. An interesting point brought out was that the desire for salt had caused moie wars than anything else. $1,821 For Red Cross Polk County Chairman Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln reports that $1,821 has been received todate bv the Red Cross for war relief work. TRYON, N. C., WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 1940 “THREE RING CIRCUS” HERE FOR 4th Not a real circus, but the same amount of fun going on all the time, is being planned for the July 4th celebration at Harmon Field to morrow. C. J. Lynch, the general chairman says the afternoon is go ing to be full as a tick with a double-header baseball game be tween Adams-Miillis and Brevard going on in one corner, a softball game in another corner, Roy Shelly and k.is trained pony and dogs in another. Some of the entertain ments will take place during in termissions so that all the people can see something of everything. String band musicians will play from time to time, a greased pole contest with a prize on top will appeal to the youngsters, there’s the barrel slide where attempts will be made to ride a barrel down a greased pipe without falling off, which is a test of one’s ability to maintain his balance. Archery, horse shoe pitching and other con tests Will be enjoyed. After it is too dark to play any games the horse show ring will be lighted up for square dancing. So make a day of it; bring your basket lunch and supper and spend the day at Harmon Field, renew acquaint ances, make new friends and visit your neighbors. Free lemonade and ice water to all. No charge for admission to Harmon Field. Stores Close Fourth All Trvon stores, bank and post office will be closed tomorrow. Thursday. July 4th. Most of the stores will be open later this eve ning for the benefit of last minute shoppers.
