Dr. Chas. W. McCall, son of
jgjplr. C. S. McCall of Forest City
T/$s chosen Tryon as the place to
Wart his dental career and for the
next few weeks will be in the office
of Dr. J. E. Derby. After that he
will open an office of his own in
the same building near Dr. Derby’s.
Dr. McCall took his pre-dental
course at Wofford college and was
graduated this spring from the At
lanta Dental college. He has pass
ed the state examinations of Geor
gia, South Carolina, and North
Carolina.
Author of Blackie Bear
Stories At Oak Hall
D. Sam Cox of Raleigh and
Bear Creek, N. C., author of the
famous Blackie Bear stories for
children, is a guest this week at
Oak Hall hotel. This is Mr. Cox’s
first visit to Tryon although he
known many Tryonites for over
// years. He says that he has
fallen in love with the place and
can easily understand why so many
noted people come he**e to rest and
work and eventually retire. He has
found it ideal for his work which
has increased tremendously since
the •growing popularity of Blackie
Bear stories has multiplied his
correspondence as well as his
burden of producing stories.
About 75,000 Blackie Bear books
have been sold to school children
in North Carolina. Many of the
stories have appeared in news
papers and are heard over radio
stations WFBR, Baltimore and
WBT, Charlotte from time to time.
Noted people from all over the
world have written testimonies to

Piedmont Scout Board
To Meet At Gamp
Tryon, N. C., July 16.—The
Executive Board of the Piedmont
Council, Boy Scouts of America,
representing the counties of Alex
ander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba,
Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln,
McDowell, Polk and Rutherford
will meet at the Piedmont Boy
Scout Camp at Lake Lanier on
Shnday morning, July 21. Judge
Bismarck Capps of Gastonia,
President of the Piedmont Council,
will conduct a devotional service
at 11 o’clock and a short business
meeting and an inspection of the
Camp will be made. Dinner will be
served at 1 o’clock.
According to R. M. Schiele, the
Executive of the Council, the
Camp is enjoying its record sea
son and it is expected that the
enrollment will total at least 1,600
Scouts and Leaders during the
summer. A new patrol cabin re
cently contributed by the States
ville District makes it possible to
accommodate 200 at the camp
each week. The new campfire
theatre built as a memorial to the
late J. Frederick Kistler of Mor
ganton by the Mlorganton Kiwanis
Club has been completed and gives
the Camp one of the most unique
campfire and outdoor settings of
the camps of the country.
