Editor C. M. Douglas of the
Brevard newspaper informs us
that Miss Adelaide Van Wey,
dramatic contralto, will sing to
night at 8 o’clock at the Brevard
high school auditorium for the
benefit of the American Red Cross.
Editor Douglas says that he has
paid $2.10 to hear her sing in New
t'ork, but that it will cost only 50c
to hear her in Brevard tonight. It
is hard to bexieve Douglas paying
$2 to hear anybody sing. He says
Miss Van Wey has appeared as
soloist with the Naumberg orches
tra under the baton of Toscanini
and others; has sung over WEAF,
WJZ and WOR radio stations and
did leading contrako roles in Gil
bert & Sullivan’s “Sulliberts.” Folk
in this section are invited to go
to Brevard tonight and hear her.

W. J. Wilson
William J. Wilson, 70, life-long
resident and prominent farmer of
the Pea Ridge section of Polk
County, died at his home early
Sunday morning after a lingering
illness.
Funeral services are to be held
at the Big Level Baptist church
on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock,
with the pastor in charge. Inter
ment in the church cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his
widow, five daughters: Mrs. Alice
Skipper and Mrs. Miamie Denton
of Tryon Route I,’ Mrs. Gordon
Hyder and Mrs. Miyrtle Shehan of
Rutherfordton; Cynthia Wilson of
Mill Spring; three sons, Joe E.
Wilson, Tryon; Spurgeon Wilson
of Columbia, S. C., and Clyde Wil
son of Mill Spring. Four brothers,
Grayson E., of Tryon; George, of
Charlotte; Walter of Spartanburg,
S. C., and Taylor Wilson of Ruth
erfordton; and one sister, Mirs. J.
H}. Gibbs, of Mill Spring also
survive.
Active pallbearers: Joe and
Yates Dalton, Joe Walker, William
Egerton, Elijah Thompson and
Twitty Jackson. Blackwell-Nickols
have charge of arrangements.
MOLLIE MORRIS CIRCLE
The Mollie Morris Circle of the
Tryon Methodist church will meet
with Mrs. Fred E. Swann tonight
at 8 o’clock. The program will be
in charge of Mrs. C. H. Helms and
M,rs. Ralph Lawrence.
Sbumerco and the Bushwhackers
will play at Harmon Field at 6:15
this evening. Soumerco and Land
rum will play on Tuesday at
Harmon Field at 6:15.
