Frigidaire Ranges and Refrigerators AVANT ELECTRIC Company War Relief Canning On the canning front, the pace is being accelerated. Twenty-one bushels of peaches from “Little Orchard” confronted the staff of workers when they arrived at the cannery in Landrum at nine-thir ty on Friday last. In addition, there were one and a half bushels of string beans, donated by Mr. and M)rs. Walter Hill and a bushel of tomatoes, the gift of Mrs. Russell Walcott. This meant a whole day’s work and the major ity of the women who had planned to remain only for the morning session agreed to return after lunch. Mrs. Harkness Smith sent out an emergency call for ad ditional workers and by 4:30 in the afternoon, 417 cans were packed. This brings the total to 1.041. During this week sixty bushels of peaches will be collect ed and there will be a need for more workers. If the present staff could be doubled there would be no necessity for anyone’s remain ing the whole dav. The canning project is not confined to any one group. An appeal has been made, through the pages of The Bulle tin. to all women in Tryon who are willing to sacrifice their time, to get in touch with Mrs. Harkness Smith. We urge you to do this.
