Est. 1-31-28 Dr. Allen Jervey, Jr., Named Rutherford-Polk District Health Officer ■I Rutherfordton, Aug. 5. On Aug. sth, Dr. Allen J. Jervey, Jr., of Tryon became execu tive head of the Rutherford-Polk District Health , Department as Acting Health Officer for the two counties. Dr. H. C. Whims, form er health officer, has been with the Lincoln-Catawba Health Dis trict since July 15th. Dr. Jervey has been assisting his father, Dr. Allen J. Jervey of Tryon, in his medical and surgical practice. He has also assisted Dr. John Z. Preston in the Maternity r id Infancy clinics and the vene real disease clinics in Polk Coun ty. Dr. Jervey will be in the Rutherford County office in the courthouse on MJondays, Wednes days, Fridays and on Saturday mornings until twelve o’clock noon, and in the health department office ttbi Columbus on Tuesdays and The greater part of the administrative duties of the health officer are discharged in the main office in Rutherfordton. On July Bth Miiss Miary Louise Hewitt was added to the depart ment as supervising nurse to di rect and supervise the work of the public health nurses in the district department. At present the personnel of the health department is as follows- Dr. Allen J. Jervey, Jr., health officer; Miss Mjary Louise Hewitt, supervisor; Sanitarian for Ruth erford County, B. A. C., Town’s Indebtedness Was Decreased Last Year On July 1, 1939, the total in debtedness of the Town of Tryon was $216,690, and during the year it was increased SIO,OOO more, but by economical management and in creased revenue the indebtedness was reduced $19,840, making a to tal net reduction in debt of $9,480. G. S. Ross C. S. Ross, 68, former Tryon Chief of Police and Trade street merchant, passed away Monday night at his home after several years of illness. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Tryon Methodist church with the Rev. Edward Graham, officiating, The deceased is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. J. H. Lindsey; one son, W. K. Ross, both of Tryon; two step-sons, Archie Davidson of Tryon and Claude Davidson of Hendersonville; also one brother, D. L. Ross, of Spartanburg.
