Vining, Editor Vol. 13. Est. 1-31-28 Welcome Greenville! Miayor E. E. Missildine report ed this morning that the delega tion of Greenville, S. C., Citizens who planned to come to Tryon to day on a good will mission, would make the trip anyway regardless of weather conditions. They are due litre about 4 o’clock for about a 45 minutes stay. Mayor Missil dine, President K. A. Bowen of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce and Playground Commissioner C. J. Lynch were making plans this morning for local citizens to greet the delegation at Sunnydale or Harmon Field, depending on the weather. The Greenville delegation is ex pected to consist of about 125 citi zens including a band. A large number of Tryou’s citi zens were born in Greenville coun ty and the Piedmont Boy Scout camp and Lake Lanier are located in Greenville Countv. Tryon and Greenville can profit much by closer cooperation, friendly asso ciations and good will. Greenville and Tryon are joint heirs to a section of scenic beauty that needs only the cooperation of wide awake communities to get the most benefit from it. C., GOLF NEWS The four first flight players in the Tryon Country Club Cham pionship tournament played their semi-final match on Sunday with the following result: Marion Pal mer won from Earle Rion 2 up. Dan Rion won from Edward Sayre 3 up and 2 to go. Palmer had a medal score of 71. Semi finals in the second, third and fourth flights will be played this weekend. The pairings will be as follows: Second flight, B. Arledge vs. C. H. Helms. Baxter Haynes vs. J. W. Taylor. Third flight: Jimmie Baker vs. F. S. W'ilcox; Julian Calhoun vs. C. L. Jolley. Fourth flight: J. Rowe vs. Rob ert Green; Bob Dick vs. E. C. Rowe. Major Sharp at Kiwanis Major Bernard Sharp was the guest speaker at the Tryon Kiwanis Club program on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon. H;e discussed the American military defense situ ation and its relation to Europe, Asia and South America. The speaker said we should quit mud dling; adopt a definite program and put it in the hands of ex perts. The program was in charge of Carroll P. Rogers. Hoyt O. Prince gave a review of the Ki wanis magazine. And a resolution was passed thanking Dr. Joseph R. Sevier for his hospitality in entertaining the Kiwanians at a picnic last Frday at Camp Grey stone. >■ lc PER COPY
