C. making one day round trip Goodwill tour to Greer, Landrum, Tryon, Saluda, Hendersonville and back to Greenville, visited Tryon on Wed nesday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock A Tryon delegation headed by Mayor E. E. M&ssildine. President K. A. Bowen of the Chamber of Commerce and Playground Com missioner C. J. Lynch, met the tour at Sunnydale Log Cabin where the long train of cars was escorted by Patrolman Miller and Chief Hague Kiser who met the party at the South Carolina line. The visiting guests were served The Home Ice Plant’s ice cold wat ermelons. There were a large num ber of ladies in the party and two of them, Mrs. Mahon and Mrs. McCullough made responses to the from the Tryon com- Knittee. ' The Greenville delegation was headed by Mayor and Mrs. C. Fred McCullough, Mjaj. G. Heyward Ma hon, Jr., president of the Cham ber of Commerce, and Mrs. Mahon, L. M. Glenn. Hewlett Sullivan an i others. The Greenville Municipal band of about 28 pieces, directed by L. T. Batson played at Sunny dale before the watermelon was served. The Greenville News of today had a long story and several pic tures about the tour. One picture showed Mayor M&ssildine eating watermelon surrounded by Town Commissioners K. B. White, R. 0. Cowan, Tryon merchant is sponsoring a Soumerco softball team in a double-header contest this afternoon at Harmon Field. The first game will be played with the Bushwhackers and the second with Landrum Browns. The “Browns is a second Landrum softball team formed to take the place of Adams-Millis in the Softball league. This game will be played around 6 o’clock immediately af ter the first game between Soumer co and Bushwhackers. CURB REPORTER With the biggest rain in history for Tryon the community just feels clean and fresh. There was no flood damage reported except to places on the streets and road where cul verts just couldn’t take it. . . . . Some people have corns on theif toes, but Mrs. Dora Foster had toes on her corn the other day when she bought a freak roasting ear from a peddler. When it was cooked the ear looked just like a hand or foot with five fingers or toes. It was just one of those tricks nature plays once in a while ....
