Est. 1-31-28 CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO MEET NEXT WEEK The annual meeting of the Try <>n Chamber of Commerce for re •korts and election of officers will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 at Missildine’s Hall. Presi dent K. A. Bowen and the board of directors met on Tuesday to make preparations for the meet ing. They hope to have every mem bership paid in full before the an nual meeting next Thursday, said Mr. Bowen. SOFTBALL NEWS The Bushwhackers defeated the Landrum Sluggers 7 to 6 on Tues day afternoon. On Wednesday Soumerco eliminated the high school from a chance at the cup by defeating them the second time during the playoff. The score was 8 to 5. Today the Kilowatts will meet the Landrum Browns at Har mon Field at 6 o’clock. Donations still needed for the playoff jPxpenses. Contributions may be sent to R. E. Brantley, president of the league. Compliance Completed The county compliance super visor reports to the county com mittee of the AAA that the first 2ompliance check has been com pleted. There will be a few farm ers who will want rechecks but the major part of compliance is com pleted. The second check on soil build ing practices will start October 31st for farms which have not already earned all soil building illowance* TRYON, N. C., THURSDAY. SEPT. 5, 1940 A post card from Miss Clara Edwards at Billings, Montana, says the airplane flight out there was great and that she is enjoying the Yellowstone Park in Wyom ing, and saw Old Faithful . . . . The Bulletin has been entered as second class mail at the Tryon Post Office fo r 13 years. All those original subscribers are invited to pay up now before statements are mailed out this week. Over 1,100 copies of the Bulletin are printed each day .... A number of people have called to the reporter’s atten tion the need for watchfulness of ou r courtesy to all people in pub lic. Courtesy makes Tryon the desirable community it is. Among the things noted here is a friendly spirit, a desire to be helpful, co operation in meeting people on the narrow country roads, a smooth ness of driving without the un necessary rush that endangers the lives of pedestrians and animals, the beautification of yards and roadsides, the large number of civic minded people who pick up trash thrown down by the thoughtless and less considerate, a desire on the part of so many people to get a lot of pleasure out of living and to help bring happiness to others.
