Those two Kiwanis wheel chairs
have arrived and are at Jackson’s
store. Far from feeling like an
invalid, on such an invigorating
morning I still couldn’t resist the
temptation to try one of the chairs.
It was so comfortable that I
thought it would be nice to be an
invalid for a while. These two
chairs will make six chairs the
club has to loan out to people
needing them. They enable the in
valid to move about and still be
in a comfortable position. The last
gift to this fund was made by the
late Jemes H. Perkins .... The
Polk County Grand Jury report
was received in the office a little
late, but if you have not read it,
vou might be interested. Here it is:

All Officers Re-Elected
For Chamber of Commerce
At the annual meeting of the
Tryon Chamber of Commerce held
on Thursday evening at Missil
dine’s Hall the officers and board
of directors were re-elected as
follows: President K. A. Bowen;
vice-president, J. T. Arledge; sec
retary-treasurer, Seth M. Vining;
A. W. Brintnall, Ernest Kerhulas,
L. F. Buchanan, C. H. Helms, Mrs.
Rebecca Jervey, J. B. Hester. Miss
Sara Rion, the assistant secretary
treasurer, who is employed by the
board of directors, was given a
vote of thanks for the manner in
which she has conducted the office
of the organization during the
past term.
The secretary’s report showed
that the Chamber of Commerce
had distributed thousands of fold
ers about TTyon, had answered
hundreds of inquiries from all ov
er the country and had given in
formation to several hundred per
sons who had called at the office
in the Heste r building. The or
ganization promoted a merchants
display window contest at Christ
mas, had Tryon represented in the
Rhododendron Festival, entertain
ed hundeds of visitors at Harmon
Field on July, helped distribute
100,000 folders in Florida on the
Mayors’ Good Will Tour, enter
tained two Good Will tours to
Tryon, one from Greenville and
one from Asheville. M'any needed
supplies, filing cabinets,
etc., wer e bought. There are no
debts and a balance of approxi
mately SIOO in the treasury.
