Est. 1-31-28 Faculty and Students Present Watch to Major Schilletter (By School Reporter) Major W. A. Schilletter left to day for Fort Jackson and the school misses him. For 17 years he has been superintendent, teacher, and friend to the hundreds of boys and girls who have been to public school. His work with the boys and eirls has not ended with the school, for he has been a teacher in numerous out-of-school activi ties—Bov Scouts, Boys’ Club, Sun day school, and in every sort of meeting where he was needed. In appreciation for what he has meant to them, the school present ed him with a Hamilton wrist watch on which was inscribed, “Good Luck to Major W. A. Stehil- Ltter from the Tryon Graded School.” M)r. Schilletter’s duties in the hryon school are being taken over -Jv M. B. Caldwell, principal and coach. The Sophomore class will be in charge of the assembly program Friday. A short musical program as follows, will be presented: March. Band; piano solo, Fairy Voices (Hewitt), Joyce Ednev; vocal solo, God Bless America bv Robert Andrews; piano solo, Minuet (Paderewski), Elizabeth Anne Vining: musical reading, Hats, Gelolo Iris Kell and Maxine Caons, Hazel Durham, Frances Williams, Sue Lindsey, Miargaret Waters, Ella Foster, Ruth For tune, Barbara Manville, Frances Helms; March, by the band. $1.50 Year In the Carolines TRYON, K C., WED., SEPT. COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL OPENS ON TUESDAY The Tryon Country Day School opens for its sixth year on Tues day, October Ist, in the same build ing it has occupied for four years, on the Mimosa grounds. The group of permanent pupils who have been in the school from its early days, is steadily increasing and as usual there are a few new pupils and more to appear. In addition to Mrs. D. C. Brund age, who has charge of the small children and the instruction in art; Miss Hope Washburn, who teaches the intermediate grades and music; and Mrs. K. A. Bowen, who teaches the older children in mathematics, English and history, Mile. Michelot, recently of Man hattanvilla College, in New York, will teach French, and Latin. Presbyterian Meeting The District meeting of Group 3 of Kings Mountain Presbyterial of the Woman’s Auxiliary will be held at the Union Mills church in Rutherford County on Thursday, October 3rd. This same group met in Saluda last year on the same date. It is hoped that large group of women from the Presby terian churches in Saluda, Tryon and Columbus will attend. An in teresting program has been plan ned. The meeting will begin at 9:45 a. m., and close about 2:30 in the afternoon. Each woman is asked to bring lunch, and all will have lunch together in the Com munity House across from the church. 25, 1940
