British Relief Work Information from Great Britain states that the Women’s Volun tary Service Corps, an organization of 800,000 British women headed by Lady Stella Reading has taken over the 96 mobile canteens given by the American Red Cross and is tirelessly rushing food to con centration points, and to firemen, police and air raid precaution workers. In spite of the fact that the American Red Cross has al ready sent more than 600,000 gar ments to Britain and will send .more, hundreds of thousands of children, women and aged .vill be in desperate need of ad ditional warm clothing this win ter. Heated houses will be vir tually non-existent. It is said that there is not enough glass in all of the British Isles to re place the broken windows in the London area alone. More canteens are needed to insure an adequate distribution of food. Lady Read ing states that wherever motile canteens are in service to home less people and relief workers their efficiency is increased 100%. Whatever is done by Tryon people in the gift of a mobile canteen and in the furnishing of warm clothing to Britain will be a direct contribution to winning the war.
