Est. 1-31-28 CURB REPORTER Tryon has two boys on the Milligan college football team, Bill Blackwell and Charles Ford. Rom ey Wheeler, sports writer of At lanta, Ga., writing in the Asheville Citizen, says: “Break out a cheer for little Milligan college of John son City, Tenn. Its football team is undefeated and untied in five games, scoring 70 points against its opponents six” .... Peggy Lincoln, sophomore at W. C. U. N. C., and former Tryon school edi tor is now a head writer on her college newspaper, the Carolinian . . . Field Secretary Calhoun of the American Red Cross was in Friday and he reports that p) Tryon Daily Bulletin contain ing Red Cross News is passed around among the officials in Washington as evidence of the good Red Cross work done in Polk County .... George Aid, gradu ate student at University of North Carolina in having his address changed says the Bulletin is almost like a letter from home .... And a letter from Cadet R. F. Zog baum, Jr., U. 9. Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla., subscribes to the Bulletin in order to keep up with home news. Cadet Zogbaum was a reader of the Bulletin while a student at Yale. His father, Cap tain Rufus Zogbaum was a com mander at Pensacola before retir ing to Tryon and his grandfather. The public is invited to attend. Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, chairman, will preside. Scout Executive R. M- Schiele will show coloured motion pictures of Yellowstone Na tional Park immediately follow ing the Court of Awards. Masons Meet Tonight The Jeff L. Nelson Masonio Lodge No. 605 will hold its regu lar meeting tonight at 8 o’clock at Missildine’s Hall. Polk County Farmers Grow Less Cotton The federal government census report shows that 1,821 bales of cotton were ginned in Polk County from the 1940 crop prior to Oc tober 18th, as compared with 2,701 bales for the crop of 1939, accord ing to J. Burchell Beam, special agent at Ellenboro. CHILD KILLED BY AUTO Ray Staith, seven-year-old son of Mrs. Zira Smith of the Sunny View section was accidentally kill ed Sunday afternoon by an auto mobile. He died before reaching the Rutherfordton hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at Big Level church with Rev. Mr. Allman offi ciating. He is survived by his mother, three brothers and one sister. Dr. B. B. Bishop will be in charge of the Tryon Kiwanis club program on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon. lc PER COPY
