Est. 1-31-28 Paul Covil Paul Covil, 21-year-old son of Earl Covil, of Try on, died in the Spartanburg General hospital at 4 p. m., Monday afternoon after a 'ffiort illness. Besides his father and step- Nfllother, the young man is survived by four brothers, Ned, Francis, Carroll and Charles Covil; three sisters, Mrs. Demus Chapman, Miss Alma Covil and Miss Myrtle Covil. Funeral services will be held at the Tryon Second Baptist church this afternoon at 3 o’clock with the Rev. Malcolm Ross officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers: John Rhodes, Ernest Chapman, Buford Burrell, Otto Hayes, Fred Lawrence and Her schel Bradshaw. Results of Golf Tourney For Mobile Canteen A golf tournament at the Tryon Country Club during the weekend held for the benefit of the Mobile -Canteen fund for Britain had the mellowing results: First place, kelson Jackson, Jr., who holed out on the 19th green; second place, Tommy Phipps, who finish ed on the 19th green; third place, Walter Howell, who reached the 19th; fourth place, Julian Calhoun who holed out on the 18th. Twen ty-two players entered the tourna ment, paying an entry fee of 50c each resulted in sll for fund. Mr. Jackson returned the prize back to the club for the patriotic fund. Greeks block Italians -In moun tain passes. Athens says the Ital ians failed to develop power and were checked 8 miles within Al banian territory. TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, OCT. 29, 1940 Boy Scouts Advance At Honor Court The First Boy Scout Court of Honor for the autumn and winter season which was held in the Parish House Monday night, open ed with prayer by Rev. Chas. L. McGavern, followed with the re peating of the Scout Oath led by Scout Executive R. M. Schiele. Sitting on the Court with the chairman, Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, were Rev. B. G. Henry, Rev. Chas. L. McGavern, Lawrence Massano vich, G. I. Henderson, M. B. Cald well, Robert Dick, R. H. Brady, K. A. Bowen and Dr. William McCall. Scouts who were advanced in rank were: Tenderfoot: Joel Elton Derby, Julian Capps. Cooking: Paul Butler. Farm Mechanics: Edwin Crom er. Firemanship: Brock Henry. Forestry: Holland Brady. Handicraft: Dick Arthur. Scholarship: Dick Arthur. Swimming: Paul Butler, Fhii Morris. Star Scout: Edwin Cromer. After the work of the Court of Honor was completed Mr. Schiele’s motion pictures in color, of Yellowstone Park were shown. Special Services at The Catholic Church All Saints Day will be observ ed on Friday and Saturday morn ings with mass at 7:30 at St. John’s Catholic church. Father Florian, celebrant.
