Many of the largest numbers were sold Tuesday at the dance. Only belf of the numbers cost over a dollar to start with. The other half cost less than a dollar each. Ten of them cost less than ten cents each. A four cent ticket may win a S7O prize. Mrs. Pinckney Lawter Mrs. Pincknev Lawter, 64, of Trvon Route One. died this morn ing at St. Luke’s hospital after a long illness. Burial plans in (' r~ of Blackwell & Nichols. $1.50 Year in the Carolinas TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, NOV. 12, 1940 TRYON HIGH 12; SPARTANBURG 0 The Tryon high gridders con tinued undefeated yesterday when they whipped a scrappy Spartan burg high squad composed of re serves of the varsity. The game was played in a drizzling rain which did not slow up the play as expected. During the first half the Tryon team struck twice to score two touchdowns and then coasted to victory keeping the visi tors well in check and playing straight football. The first tally came when Jack Melton raced around end 47 yards to score. He was aided by excellent blocking of the backfield with Vining taking out two men alone. The second score was made when the ball was advanced from midfield by a suc cession of line plunges by Vining and D. Beatson to the three yard marker, where Dutton Beatson dived over. The Tryon team showed improv ed form over their wet showing in the Marshall game with the play being more aggressive and polish ed. The play and blocking of the backfield was outstanding with Vining doing exceptionally well both on offense and defense, shift ing in the line to strengthen the weakness caused by the absence of Homer Shields, out with a knee injury. Dutton Beatson played his best game of the year exhibit ing time and again fancy broken field running, punting the wet ball consistently thirty and thir ty-five yards and running the team well at quarterback.
