Est. 1-31-28 Merchandise Skeet Shoot and Field Day A Great Success For Fun and Finances A total of $176.35 was raised fjr the Mobile Canteen Fund at Merchandise Skeet Shoot on Saturday at Mlany Levels. The shooting prizes were award ed as follows: High Squad: $lO, Preston Capt., Holmes, McDonald, Jervey and Bartol. Second High Squad: $5, Ers kine Capt., Kerhulas, Mahler, Smith and Brown. Consolation Low: $2, Brannon, Capt., Eargle, Cathey, Arledge and Hancock. High Gun: $5, Chas Conrad. Second High Gun: $3, John Moore. Consolation Low Gun: $2, Geo. Cathey. High Team of Two: $5, John Moore and Julian Hester. Second High Team of Two: $3, Chas. Conrad and Capt. Zogbaum. Consolation Low Team: $2, Mc- and Dr. McCall. -two of the prizes were return ed by the winners, to help the Canteen Fund over the top. Al tho the committee tried to insist that the prizes be retained by the winners. The mystery of the turkey raffle was finally solved. You merelv tried to guess its weight. Sheriff W. D. Hines was the near est guesser, within IV2 ounces— pretty good—and took home the nice juicv big bird. Fred Nash of Spartanburg act ed as official referee and scorer for the day and with Mr. Craw ford—also of Spartanburg, put on an exhibition in mid afternoon Continued on Back Page TRYON, N C., MONDAY, NOV. 25, 1940 Christian Scientists To Observe Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Stervice will be ob served by the Christian Scientists in Tryon on Thursday at 11 a. m. at the Lanier library. Subject, “Thanksgiving.” Special Meeting Tonight At Masonic Lodge The Jeff L. Nelson Masonic Lodge, No. 605 will hold a special meeting tonight at 8 o’clock at the Lodge room over Missildine’s. Forest Service Traps Adult Deer For Stocking New Refuges Asheyille, Nov. 25. —'Over 200 adult deer will be captured in live traps during the current winter on the Pisgah National Forest Game Preserve in the Pisgah Na tional Forest, for transfer to ref uges in other parts of the south. Cleverly designed deer traps of box type have been constructed throughout the refuge for luring the deer to safe crates in which they may be transferred to other refuges. Today’s Headlines The Italians are still on the run. The British land in Athens, Greece to help the Greeks in their fight against Italy. Germany warns Greece that she is making a mistake in lining up with Eng land against Italy. Turkey has also received a note in person from Germany. English bombers pound both Germany and Italy. A Ger man raider attacks a British ship near the West Indies.
