UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 ffije (Eryrm Batig (The World's Smallest Daily Newspaper) lc PER COPY Seth M. Vining, Editor Vol. 13. Est. 1-31-28 Try on Junior Red Cross Goes Over the Top Tryon's grammar grades of ten rooms, at 50 cents a room, donated $5.78 for its 366 pupils to the Junior Red Cross campaign. Part of Bazaar Proceeds To Go to British War Relief Now that the fund for the Mobile Canteen has been - over subscribed, St. Agnes Guild offi cials announce that 15 percent of the proceeds from their Christmas Bazaar will be donated to the Try on branch of British War Re lief. The Guild had considered a gift to the Canteen Fund in the event the fund was not complete by the time of the Bazaar on December 3rd. This donation to British War Relief means that the Guild is expecting an increase in proceeds, because funds necessary to the extensive local charity work of Guild must be raised in the 9 customary amount. All of this local work must be carried on as always and will not be curtailed by the gift to war relief. Tp assure this result the Guild is putting forth extraordinary efforts in assembling an unusual array of articles for Christmas. These will be offered for sale in a dozen or more specialized de partments of the Bazaar, in a setting decorated most appropria tely for the occasion, and with it all and for the one price of ad mission, the ladies of the Guild and a bevy of young misses of the village will serve a tea that of itself will be too good to miss. $1.50 Year in the Carolinas TRYON, N C., FRIDAY, NOV. 29, 1040 j CURB REPORTER The North Carolina Thanksgiv ing is over. It was a beautiful day Something about it that made one thankful for ever so many things, just the joy of breathing fresh air in bright sunshine .... Now our thoughts are turned toward Christ mas, a period of good cheer, when every little gift, kind word, smile, or decoration helps to spread cheerfulness and warm the cold spirits of the lonely. It is in the decorations that we reach every one who has an eye to see, the rich and the poor. Each year Tryon has decorated Trade street with ; lighted pine trees. They get prettier every year as the amount of funds raised justify the ex pense. The committee now has on hand the wire and most of the bulbs from last year’s decorations- New trees will have to be secured j and put up, new tinsel put on and j the electric bill paid. It will cost i about $ this year. Donations have come in from as little as 50 cents up to $lO depending on the persons interest and ability to pay. George A. Cathey is chairman of the committee. Contributions may be sent to him, to C. J. Lynch or the Bulletin office. If you want a part in spreading this Christ mas cheer to strangers as well as friends, please send your donation as soon as possible as the trees should go up next week . . .
