CURB REPORTER
“Christmas Spirit? Bah, Hum
bug!” is the Scrooge way a few
people feel about Christmas with
its decorations, gifts and greet
ings, but not so with most Tryon
ites. In addition to all their in
dividual and group charity work
they are making a festive spirit
of greeting everyone with the
lighted Christmas trees on Trade
street. This will be something
everyone can enjoy, for the
ers and workers can come to town
at night and view the beauty of
the lighted trees, and some will
be helped to catch the inspiration
that all this is being done to let
the world know that a Christ

Only the 6th of December, but
the true spirit of Christmas that
of making others have a happy
joyous Christmas, seems to be
literally “floating in the air” about
our village as plans get under
way for socials, Christmas trees
and gifts, Santa’s visits and
Christmas pageants, all proclaim
ing “Peace on Earth and Good
Will to Men.”
The Woman’s Society of Chris
tian Service met Tuesday after
noon with Mrs. H. T. Edwards. A
large number of members enjoy
ed an impressive program under
the leadership of Miss Ethel Hen
derson. The topic for the after
noon’s study was “Investing Our
Heritage in Social Evangelism.”
Mrs. Hugh Edwards gave an in
teresting talk on “The Long
View”. The program was closed
with the hymn “Living for
Jesus”, which was beautifully
sung by Mrs. W. H. McDonald.
During the social hour delicious
refreshments were served by the
hostess.
Rev. M. W. Edwards was pleas
antly surprised last Wednesday
evening when quite a number of
his church members and friends
gave him an unexpected visit,
bringing with them good things
to eat to “pound the preacher”.
On Thursday evening, Nov. 28,
Misses Essie and Vera Edwards
entertained the young people of
the Epworth League. All reported
an evening of grand fun.
