Post Office To Be Open Saturday Afternoons The Tryon Post Office which has been closing on Saturday af ternoons will remain open on Sat urday afternoons for the rest of this month in order to take care of the increased Christmas mail ing. •Rotary Friday Miss Ina T. Tyler, superinten dent of public welfare for Polk County, will be the guest speaker at the Tryon Rotary club on Fri day at 1 p. m., at Sunnydale. The program will be in charge of J. Arledge. Qi Shoot No Firecrackers Chief Hague Kiser states that it is against the law to shoot fire crackers within the town limits of Tryon. Violators caught will be prosecuted. The chief states that fireworks not only are a public nuisance in the noise they make but also fire hazards. Baseball Meeting In order to make plans for an early start next spring all per sons interested in having a base ball team for Tryon are asked to meet on Thursday night at 7:30 at the Tryon school gymnasium. WEDNESDAY, DEC. 11, 1940 Christmas At The Health House The Polk County Unit of the American Women’s Hosptals met in the Parish House on Wednes day of last week to plan for Christmas at the Health House. The first order of business was to replace two very efficient for mer officers, Mrs. Samuel Bing ham, Jr., and Miss Kate Carmen. Mrs. Allen Jervey, Jr., was elect ed secretary and Miss Faye W. Sprague, treasurer. Each year the Unit, with the assistance of interested friends, remembers the children and young people at Mill Spring, Cooper’s Gap and Pea Ridge. The Christ mas party at Mill Spring will as usual be for the colored people, Mts. George L. Canfield, director. The date Saturday, Dec. 28, 3 p. m., Mrs. Allen Jervey, Jr., and Miss Faye Sprague will head the committee in charge at Cooper’s Gap; Monday, Dec. 30, 3 p. m., the party at the Katherine Beat son Health House; Pea Ridge, Friday, Dec. 27, 3 p. m., will be directed by Mrs. R. M, Limbert. The local chairmen in charge of decorations, etc., will be Mrs. Dorothy Heitman, at Cooper’s Gap, and Mrs. Arthur Thompson at Pea Ridge. Mrs. Canfield and assistants will purchase the candy, oranges, etc., and make bags for same.
