Gifts will be given each child . . .D'avid Wick, 12 year old son of Mir. and Mrs. George Wick, who is a student at the Tryon Country Day school, bought a small hand press and some type recently, and has already published a little news paper, called the Tryon Country Day School Review. It is a re markable piece of work consider ing the handicaps of learing to set type and print, too. If you have never tried to set type by hand you can’t imagine how hard it is without any instructions. It takes unusual perseverance. Ann is editor-in-chief, and —'students of the school have a share in the production of the tiny paper which is half the size of the Bulletin . . . Thanks to Mrs. J. Waller Marshall of Winnetka, 111. we have an interesting copy of the Valhalla Voice, of Valhalla, N. Y., a weekly newspaper the ex act size of the Tryon Daily Bulle tin. It is printed on golden rod colored paper instead of canary. It is newsy, well patronized by advertisers, neatly printed, has a circulation of 650 and indica tions point to a successful venture. Tuttle is the publisher. . . .The British and Greeks have Please Turn to Back Page — TRYON, N C., THURSDAY, DEC. 19, 1940 SALUDA TRAIN WRECK IS EXPLAINED Washington, Dec. 18.—The di rector of the interstate commerce commission’s bureau of safety said today that an accident on the Southern railway near Saluda, N. C., on September 25th, was caused “by failure to control the speed of a train properly on a descend ing grade.” The derailment resulted in the death of one employe of the rail road and the injury of two others. NATION-WIDE RADIO BROADCAST A coast-to-coast radio program for the benefit of The British War Relief Society will be broadcast over the Columbia Broadcasting System network on the night of December 21 at 7:30 o’clock, EST. It is confidently expected that a person of prominence in the British Government will deliver a message to the American people by short wave during th orbsiaßdc short wave during this broadcast. On this side, some of the most popular American radio stars will contribute their services to the program. Epworth League Pageant The Epworth League of the Tryon Methodist church will give a Christmas pageant on Monday night at 8 o’clock at the church. The public is invited. The Baptist Business Women’s Circle will meet tonight at 8 o’clock with Mrs. Edward Fisher. Pro gram will be in charge of Mrs. Rucker Durham.
