Attention Polk County
Committee for Defense
The Polk County Committee to
Defend America by Aiding the
fckAllies is asked to stand by for
"service.
The president, it is understood,
has a plan to propose as soon as
Congress meets next week where
by defense will be speeded up
and help given to Britain more
directly.
It is the duty of all good citi
zens to respond at once and give
voice to their approval or opinions.
Delays are dangerous. We can in
this way answer the accusations
of those who say that Democracy
cannot work with speed and effi
ciency. This is the way to MAKE
IT WORK.
No attention need be paid to
the new organizations springing
up in the west, here and there,
crying “keep us out of war.” The
White Committee was organized
Por this very purpose, and so far
ts policies have proved to be
sound. The “opposition” seems to
have no purpose except to attack
the White Committee and no plan
except to urge Congress to speed
up defense.
By New Year’s Day it is hoped
that we will all wake up to find
we are on the same side of the
argument! Then, one GOOD
RESOLUTION and we are set.—

Dividends Increase For
T. F. S. & L. Investors
The Tryon Federal Savings &
Loan Association will pay its 11th
consecutive dividend on December
31st, according to an advertise
ment in Tryon Daily
Bulletin. The report shows that
the association has grown tremen
ously and constantly ever since
its organization in 1935. Today
it has assets of nearly a third of
a million dollars invested in homes
in this section. The association
with its $5,000 insurance protec
tion for each deposit has been a
boon to investors desiring a safe
place for their money at the best
rate of interest. Likewise it has
been a good thing for those pro
