Adjourn to mingle with friends and frolic to your heart’s content. THURSDAY, JAN. 9, 1941 TRYON, N. C., Erskine Church Will Be 50 Years Old In August In presiding over the annual meeting and supper of the Erskine Memorial Congregational church on Wednesday evening at Sunny dale, the pastor, Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, stated that the church would be 60 years old in August and that a committee would be appointed to make plans for an appropriate celebration of the event. The little church was or ganized in August, 1891 by the Rev. A. H. Missildine, father of Mayor E. E. Mjssildine. Dr. Lin coln read pastor Missildine’s first annual report of January 1892 and it showed a membership of 17, a small but enthusiastic begin ning due to the spirit of the founders of the church. After the supper Wednesday night the choir led the assembly in singing of hymns. An added feature was a violin solo by Miss Margaret Sprague with Miss Ann Clark as accompanist. Reports from the various or ganizations of the church showed a splendid year of achievement in service, and the church and Sun day school treasurers reported a balance in each organization, and all debts paid. Progress was shown in the campaign to raise funds for the church addition for the Sunday school. A budget of nearly $4,000 for the coming year was adopted.
