Jenks At Rotary “Some Experiences of a Coun try School Teacher 50 Odd Years Ago” will be the subject of Geo. S. Jenks’ talk at the Tryon Rotary Club on Friday at 1 p. m., at Sunnvdale. Mr. Jenks who attend ed Michigan university taught school between terms and he will give an account of some of his experiences. Tobruk in North Africa falls to British. Wendell Willkie flew to Eng land on Wednesday to study con ditions first hand. ( r Miss Lincoln on Committee For World Student Service Greensboro, Jan. 22.—Plans are going forward rapidly at Woman’s College for the annual World Student Service Fund and the Refugee drive which will get un derway March 4th, according to announcement from Dr. W. C. Jackson, dean of admihistration, honorary chairman. Directing the drive will be Miss Helen Boyd, director of reilgious activities; Miss Louise Alexander, associate professor of political science; Miss Bess Johnson, of Henderson, president of the Y. W. C. A.; and Miss Elizabeth Patten of Raleigh, president of the Student Body. Miss Peggy Lincoln .of Tryon is a member of the Publicity committee. Big Poultry Shipment The second cooperative poultry shipment from Polk County prov ed to be a real sale day for farm ers. Eighty-four farmers in twelve different communities sold 4,147 pounds of poultry which brought the farmers $540.36. Joe B. Wilson of Cooper’s Gap made the biggest sale which was 628 pounds for which he got $87.64. Colored Man For Army Harvey Ferguson, volunteer with order No. 286, will leave the Polk County Draft Board for Ft. Bragg on January 30th. Substi tutes for replacement in case Fer guson is not accepted are Ernest Counts, George Washington Ed wards and Stanley Henry King.
