Tryon high school Beta club met Monday night with Misses Anne Clerk and Dot Millikin as hostesses . . . All s those who enjoy acting or 'direct ing have the opportunity of a life time in attending the five-day course in little theatre work at the Parish House this week. It is absolutely free to all who are interested. Four one-act plays are to be given Friday night under the direction of local talent. Jack Stuart Knapp the instructor, is teaching the principles of acting, directing, staging and everything about making a 7 play successful. . . . . G. W. T. W. is coming to Tryon next week, February 3rd and 4th at Tryon Theatre. C., Jan. 27.—Three awards for distinguished service to boyhood will be conferred upon leaders in the character building and citizenship training program of the Boy Scouts of America in the area of the Piedmont Council on the occasion of the annual meeting and banquet of the Coun cil which will be held at Gastonia on Tuesday night, January 28th. The awards made to Rev. William S. Stoney of Mor ganton, Rev. J. Lewis Thornburg of Statesville and William T. Spencer of Gastonia. These three men have been associated in the leadership of Scouting for a long period of years during which time they have served in various capa cities and their records have been outstanding. During the past sev eral years Rev. Stoney has served as Vice President of Piedmont Council and as chairman of the Burke County District; Rev. J. Lewis Thornburg has served as a Vice President of the Council and as chairman of the Iredell County District; W. T. Spencer has serv ed as chairman on Finance for the greater Gastonia District and as a member of the Executive Board and other important Committees. A limited number of Silver Beaver awards are made each year by the National Council of the Boy Stouts of America thru Scout Councils to men who have distinguished themselves in ser vice to boys.
