Flag Service Tuesday Polk County schools will be pre sented with flags on Tuesday night at 8:30 at the Tryon Theatre when the principals and three pupils from each school will be present to receive the flags donat ed by the Tryon Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. A motion picture “The Flag Speaks” will be pre sented in addition to the regular feature “Flight Command”. Dr. George Farrand Taylor will make the presentation address. Mrs. Alice Hilyar was the hos tess to the Outlook Club of Co lumbus at Hotel Tryon for their meeting. Hilyar, assisted by her sister, Miss Clara Edwards, greet ed her guests in the hotel lounge. At 7 o’clock, club members and guests were invited into a private dining room, where a lovely three course dinner was served. A beautifully appointed table was in the form of a horse shoe with a center piece of snap dragons and fern. The dinner completed, the club met in a short business session with the president, Mrs. B. B. Flynn, presiding, and minutes read by Mrs. C. E. Blanton, sec retary, after which there was an interesting program on Lincoln Day, directed by Mrs. Flynn, pro gram leader. One very interesting feature wa» « fairly well preserved copy of Je New York Times, published e day after Lincoln’s assassin ation. The program was as follows: Patriotic Airs (violin), Miss Betty Thomas; Gettysburg Ad dress (reading), Mrs. J. A. Fea gan; “Our Boys” (original piano composition), Mrs. G. V. Tilley; ' Lincoln’s Assassination (reading), Mrs. R. K. Landis; Ave Maria (violin), Miss Betty Thomas. There was also a contest on Lin coln history, the prize being pre sented to a guest, Miss Thomas. The club then adjourned, amid much merriment, each one declar ing a lovely evening—thanks to the gracious hostess.— cont. Betty Ernest Grover of Milton, Mass., arrived during the weekend for a visit with his sister, Mrs. E. E. Missildine. A. Fant, assistant superinten dent of the A&P, who opened the Tryon store about 12 years ago, was a visitor in Tryon during the weekend. He is *now located in Shelby. Mrs. Mildred Galloway is in St. Luke’s hospital for treatment. Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. Drew of Warren, Rhode Island, are guests of Dr. Drew’s parents, Mr. and M!rs. Jerry Drew, in Gillette Woods. Mrs. Lewis D. Parker of Berk shire Hills in New England, has arrived in Tryon for a few weeks’ visit with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Burtenshaw in Gillette Woods. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery Whaling have returned from a visit at Palm Beach, Fla. Mrs. Grace B. Haynes has re turned to Spartanburg after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Haynes in Tryon. Mr. and Mrs. Irving Day wlio are at Little Orchard while the Flynns are in Florida, have as guests, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Laniejr of Greenwich, Conn., and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Lanier.
