C., THURSDAY, FEB. 20, 1941 RECORD ATTENDANCE AT SCOUT BOARD Shelby, Feb. 1,9. —The Execu tive Board of the Piedmont Coun- Boy Scouts of America, Inc., 1 dieting at the private dining room of the Hotel Charles had its rec ord attendance for the past 17 years with 84 members of the Board and their guests present. Representatives were in atten dance from the Counties of Alex ander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lin coln, McDowell and Rutherford. Hon. Clyde R. Hoey, former gov ernor, elected as the vice-presi dent of the Council from Cleve land County was presented to the group. Reports received from the va rious counties of the Council show that steps have been taken to or ganize for an intensive deveolp ment of Scouting and Cubbing for the year 1941 in keeping with Jhe national program to invigor and strengthen democracy -Snru a program of positive train ing such as the Boy Scout move ment affords. Efforts will be made during the year to greatly enlarge the present enrollment of more than 3,000 Scouts and Cubs. The Council voted to particiate in the building of a suitable me morial to W. D. Boyce who was responsible for the Boy Scout movement coming to America than 31 years ago. The memorial is being sponsored by the Na tional Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the leaders of Scouting in America have been Cnr tinned on Back Page Dr. Sewall At Rotary- On 36th Birthday Dr. Cnas. G. Sewall will be the chief speaker at the Tryon Rotary Club on Friday at 1 p. m., at Sunnydale. This is the 36th anniversary of Rotary Interna tional. John G. Landrum, Jr., who has charge of the program states that the Rotary Interna tional has a membership of 210,- 000 men. They, collectively, speak almost every language, embrace almost every political belief, and represent almost every religion. Rotary Clubs are found in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, South America and the islands of the oceans. The International con vention last year was held *in Cuba. Rotary has one ideal—the Ideal of Service. Steer This Way The grand champion Aberdeen Angus steer will be on exhibit in Hendersonville at the Thomas Motor Co., on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p. m. All cattle m:n. 4-H Club members and anyone inter ested in good beef cattle is cordi ally invited to see this ideal steer. Admission is free. Madame Christeen Here Mrs. C. R.
