Est. 1-31-28 The Theme Is Most Timely And Significant On the first day of Lent, for >more than 25 years, World Ob servance of the Diay of Prayer has followed the course of the sun around the earth. The theme for this year's program, as pre pared for us by the committee in Shanghai, China, is “Thy King dom Come”. This is the theme upon which the union services in Tryon will also be based, as we meet today (Friday) at 5 o’clock in the Episcopal church and at 8 o’clock in the Methodist church. Last night as we went to our beds, a new day was dawning in Honolulu, where Hawaiians, Chi nese, Japanese, Americans, Span ish and English met to pray for peace between their homelands. Then as the day moved on to weary, war-torn Shanghai, 18 nationalities took part in union Jplox and Coptic churches united in meetings. For the twelfth ’year in Athens, the American church was filled with Greeks, Turks, Armenians and English. In the great Cathedral in Johannesburg. South Africa, a racial drama of great beauty and meaning was enacted, as Zulus, Kaffis, half castes, natives, English and Am erican residents kneel side by side in prayer. Only in Nazi-dominated Europe is the picture dim, but last year in Denmark, Holland, Sweden and Norway, and in the British Isles the World Day of \ Prayer was observed. Missildine During the past ten years thousands of people have enjoyec| the use of Harmon Field. While this property is owned by the Town of Tryon it is under the supervision and management of a local commission. Men who are devoting their time and energy, free of cost, in making Harmon Field a success. No financial aid is given by the town as the prop erty is outside of the corporate limits. Since the fire new buildings are being erected; Athletic Field House, all the year 'round shower baths, ladies’ rest rooms. It has been my pleasure to in spect this work with Mr. C. J. Lynch, chairman of the board, and when finished I am sure you will agree with me it will be com plete in every Retail. I know of no one thing that has helped to build Tryon and this community to a greater degree than Harmon Field. No more beautiful spot can be found and no better place for the building of character' and there you find a welcome to the peoples of all classes young and old. Like every other enterprise of value it requires money to do the necessary things. I urge you to send your check for any amount to Mr. C. J.
