H. Helms gave a report of his Flori da tour with the Mayors of Wes tern North Carolina. Mr. Helms stated that the trip was worth while in that it brought Western North Carolina leaders together to study mutual problems and to cooperate with one another; the trip also advertised Western North Carolina to the visitors in Florida and pointed out to them the advantages of spending part of their vacation in this section, and also invited Florida people to come here in the summer. The methods of entertainment used by Florida were studied and Mr. Helms was of the opinion that this section didn’t want many of the things in Florida, and that for year ’round living Western North Carolina was the best place ,in the world. County Attorney J. T. Arledge represented the County and the Tryon Chamber of Commerce re ported on his Washington trip with the leaders of Western North Carolina seeking suitable defense industries for this section. He found that many of the defense industries would not be suited for this section, but that an effort is being made to get small private industries that would be accep table to the section and profitable to the industries.
