MAYOR MISSILDINE
ISSUES PROCLAMATION
Among the institutions and or
ganizations which benefit the citi
zens of Tryon and Polk County,
St. Luke’s Hospital has a unique
claim upon their esteem and sup
port. Its service to the commu
nity is recognized by the Duke
Foundation and by the County,
both of which appropriate funds
toward its maintenance. Its faci
lities are increasingly appreciated
by those who are able to pay for
their care, but more than half of
the patients it receives are able
to return little but gratitude.
Accidents, illness which cannot
properly be cared for at home,
childbirth and the need for minor
and major surgical operations
occur in the families of the rich
and poor, to citizens, sojourners
and strangers. The doors of St.
Luke’s Hospital are always open
to all.
To maintain the hospital for
the current year $5,200 will be
required, in addition to the sourc
es of income which have been in
dicated. During the week com
mencing March 30th, St. Luke’s
Hospital Association will call up
on the citizens of Tryon and Polk
County to contribute toward this
amount.
Now, therefore, I, Ernest Mis
sildine. Mayor of Tryon, do here
by designate the week of March
30 as Hospital Week, and com
-mend to all citizens of Tryon the
duty and privilege of supporting
St. Luke’s Hospital .
(Signed) E. E. Missildine,
Mayor.
