Est. 1-31-28 Tryon High School Downs Green Creek 49 to 25 to Win County Tournament The Tryon high school basket -ball boys’ team weakened by injur and playing without services two star men, McFarland and Taylor, surprised everyone by their decisive 49 to 25 victory over Green Creek high school on Saturday night in the finals of the Polk County Tournament. The Tryon squad due to an epidemic of mumps had only seven men left to carry on the game. Green, Jackson, Vining, Melton and Beat son, making up the Tryon team, gave a brilliant exhibition of team work with excellent floor work and goal shooting. Using a fast break which Green Creek seemed unable to stop, the winners took the lead and were never headed having an eight point advantage at the end of the first quarter and gradually building it up. Green and Jackson led in the goring with 17 points each, ■■ning, who seemed unhindered Tty his sprained ankle, took care of the floor work with Beatson. Melton using an outside screen to rack up ten points seemed to play the entire floor. The losers pre sented a team that fought to the final whistle with Skipper and R. Fagan being their best players.
