Est. 1-31-28 State Garden Pilgrimage The Garden Club Pilgrims are on the way! This week the gardens in the eastern part of the state are to be. visited; next week the piedmont section is on parade. The dates for Tryon this year are the 17th and 18th (Thursday and Friday). The places to be visited are the homes of Sirs. Julian Calhoun and Mrs. George Farrand Taylor, and the Garden Club sanctuary at Pearson’s Falls. The Calhoun residence is near the junction of Melrose and Laurel avenues, on a hill looking westward toward the mountains. It is a fine old Colon ial house with lovely formal garden. It will be open from 10:30 to 12:30 and from 2:30 to 6:00. A little further on Laurel avenue a sign will point the way to the home of Mrs. Taylor, “In the Hills”. It is an English cottage with a charming terraced garden and view of the Tryon range. It will be open v from 10:30 to 6:00. Coffee will be served at the outdoor fireplace. Pearson’s Falls is a beautiful glen, noted for its wealth of wild flowers. It is reached from High way 176, five miles northwest of Tryon. All places will be marked with signs. Follow the red arrows.
