Est. 1-31-28 The Horse And Hound Show They did it again. For 16 years the gods of weather have kept 'ihe rain from intereferring with the Tryon Horse and Hound Show. Cloudy and ccol the weather was just right for horses and riders. The grandstands, box seats and parking spaces around the show ring were filled with thousands of spectators, many of them for the first time, and some for the 16th time. There were 22 classes and about 70 horses in the show. The win ners and attractive pictures of the event are listed in today’s Asheville Citizen and Spartan burg Herald. They take up over five columns of regular newspaper space. Staff writers and photo graphers were present from oth er publications. There is no need to duplicate here. These papers are on sale at local newsstands. | The show had been put off a 'week later this year, and the ad vanced foilage and dogwood blos soms made the arena more beau tiful than ever. The spectators seemed to be having a better time than ever. All their wants were taken care of with better facilit'es. The lunch booths and drink stands were attractively decorated and operated by competent committees. The small children entertained themselves with the swings, see saws, and sliding boards. C., THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 1941 Artz - Eure Mr. and Mrs. Tazewell Augus tus Eure of Eure, N. C., (Gates County) announce the engage ment of their daughter, Miss Gussie Louise Eure to John Wels ford Artz of Old Fort and Gates ville, N. C. The wedding will take place in June in Eure’s Chris tian church. Miss Eure is a sister of secre tary of the State of North Caro lina, Thad Eiure. She has been a member of the Ahoskie high school faculty for several years. Mr. Artz is the only son of Mrs. Callie H. Artz and the late Welsford Parker Artz of Old Fort, N. C. He was County Agent for Polk County from 1926 to 1934. He is now County Agent for Gates County located in Gatesville, N. C. While in Polk County Mr. Artz was active in county civic affairs. He was Scoutmaster of the Co lumbus Boy Scout troop, direc tor of the Polk County Bank & Trust Company and president of the Tryon Kiwanis Clum. Cork - Graham Invitations have been received in Tryon to the wedding of Lieu tenant Alexander DeWitt Graham, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Gra ham of Rock Hill and Tryon, to Miss Jennie Steadman Cork, daughter of Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. William Neville Cork. The wedding will take place on Saturday, May 10th, at 8:30 p. m. in the First Presbyterian church at Columbia, S. C. A reception will follow imme diately at the Hotel Columbia. lc PER COPY
