New Farmers In
Polk County
For the past few weeks many
northern business men have been
coming to Tryon on vacations. At
least five percent of these city
dwellers from Chicago, Detroit or
New York have bought farms in
the county.
The largest sale this spring was
the farm of Thomas Johnson in
the Flynn Cross Roads community.
This place contains over 600 acres
with around 15 acres of fertile
Pacolet bottom land.
The new owner plans to develop
a modern beef cattle farm out of
it. The county agent has been co
operating with all these new citi
zens by assisting them with their
farm plans. These plans consist
of a proper utilization of the land
to the best advantage of the
scheme of farming decided upon.
Assistance has been given with
developing a modern farmsted
which would be both economical
and attractive.
Polk County is indeed fortunate
to have men like these come into
the county. They will be demon
strations and inspirations to the
average farmer in our county.
With a considerable group of
farm managers already in the
county and more employed each
year, it is planned to get this
group together for some funda
mental brief studies of farm man
agement.
