Notary Friday Dr. Allen Jones Jervey will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary Club program on Friday at 1 p. m. at Sunnydale. Major Bernard Sharp will be the speaker. Free Movies Saturday The Tryon Riding & Hunt Club will show free motion pictures at the Tryon Theatre on Saturday morning, May 10, at 10 a. m. The raising and protection of fish and birds will be among the features of the pictures. All young people are especially invited for its edu cational benefits. A State official will be present to explain the work of conservation and propa gation of wild life. COLUMBUS VOTES Unopposed for his office as may or of the town of Columbus, J. R. Burgess was re-elected Tuesday. In the race for alderman Bur ley Johnson polled 64 votes; R. S. Ramsey, 63; and Donald Spur lin, 65. Roy T. Baisden was elected mayor of Saluda over Herbert E. Pace. House passed Roosevelt’s ship seizure bill. C., THURSDAY, MAY 8, 1941 Mrs. Anne Bosworth Greene, the authoress, addressed the Con verse college assembly on Wed nesday and delighted the students with a talk on writing bocks . . . This week is Rural Mail Box Im provement Week and the Post Office Department is eager to have rural patrons make their boxes attractive by painting the posts, planting flowers around them and doing anything to make them lock better. Such work improves the value of the place and the entire mail route . , . . Tryon Chamber of Commerce has received inquir ies from, people in Columbus, 0., Philadelphia, and Jacksonville, Fla., wanting accommodations at boarding house or small apart ments, also for boating and swim ming .... Dr. George Farrand Taylor' is attending a regional meeting of Phi Beta Kappas at Winthrop college today . . . The Auberge and Spanish Court are advertising special summer rates in today’s Bulletin. So if you have friends who are interested in coming to Tryon for the summer clip out the ad and mail it to them .... John Paul Lucas, edi tor of the Duke Power Magazine and head of the advetrising and sales department visited Manager K. A.
