C., MONDAY, MAY 19, 1941 Kiwanis at Asheville There will be no Kiwanis meet ing in Tryon this week as the Tryon club will meet with the Division One clubs in Asheville on Friday night. Governor Ray tiFurr of Rock Hill, S. C. will de > liver the principal address. It is a ladies night event and Tryon Kiwanians are ezpected to take their wives. Horse Not Mad An official report from the State laboratory states that Mrs. Schy ler Hamilton’s horse which had to be killed because of illness, was not a victim of rabies as no trace of the disease could be found. BANK CLOSED TUESDAY Tryon Bank and Trust Co. will close on Tuesday in celebra tion of Mecklenburg Independence Declaration Day. Mrs. Margaret Culkin Bann ing entertained at dinner on Sat fthrday at her home, ,Friendly ''"Hills, in honor of Camp Croft of ficers General and Mrs. Oscar W. Griswold, Colonel and Mrs. J. H. Howe, Colonel Woodfin Jones, Ma jor and Mrs. W. H. Arnold, and Colonel and Mrs. Roger Hillman. Mrs. Dudley C. Smith has re turned home after treatment at St. Lukes hospital. Mrs. Hugh Walker and baby, Max Winston have returned home from St. Lukes hospital. * Byron Rector is in Memorial hospital, Charlotte, for treatment. Another Eagle Here Dick Arthur, son of Frank Ar thur, is expected to receive his Eagle badge and certificate from the national headquarters of the American Boy Scouts tonight when the Polk County Court of Honor meets at the Parish House. Richard passed his final tests at the last cour of honor meeting, but the badge and certificate have to come from New York city. The small gold eagle pin will be pre sented by S'cout Executive R. M. Schiele in a very impressive cere mony to which the public is invit ed. The court of honor will be in charge of acting chairman, R. H. Brady. The eagle rank is the highest in Boy Scout work. Ship Sunk with Mail Postmaster W. H. Stearns has received notice of the sinking of the S. S. Ville De Liege last month north of Ireland. It carried 2,369 sacks of mail and parcel post from the United States. • Adams-Millis Wins Again The Adams-Millis baseball team cf the Industrial league defeated Balfour on Saturday at Balfour 9 to 5, making the third straight victory for the Tryon team. Ward and Arledge formed the battery for the locals. Card of thanks The family of the late John S. Melton wish to thank all their friends in Polk County for their many kindnesses during the ill ness and death of Mr. Melton.
