C., FRIDAY, MAY 23, 1941 National Council Garden Clubs Here on Next Tuesday On Tuesday, May 27th, the Na tional Council of Garden Clubs of America are planning a visit to Pearson’s Falls, and will be entertained by the Tryon Garden Club. Several hundred delegates from many parts of the country are to attend this conference at Asheville next week, and it is hoped that every member of the Tryon Garden Club will consider herself Hostess Number One to see that their only afternoon here will be a memorable occasion. The hours are from three until five o’clock. Punch wlil be served by a special committee, headed by Mrs. J. Rex Dunn. Contract Let To Remove Dirt Across Railroad The State Highway Department announced from Raleigh Thursday that the contract had been let to remove the high bank across the railroad in front of Oak Hall hotel. L. 9. Bradshaw and sons of Salisbury got the contract on a bid of $3,854.06, it is disclosed. The grading of this side of the railroad will give more parking space for Tryon, will eliminate the necessity of a long string of automobiles having to wait at crossings when a train is stand ing on the crossing; it will enable traffic to and from Melrose avenue to continue uninterrupted; it will also eliminate a blind curve and enable motorists to see trains at a great distance before at — . continued on back paqr lc per copy
