The program will be in charge of John T. Arledge. POST OFFICE CLOSES HERE ON FRIDAY In celebration of National Me morial Day the Tryon post office will be closed all day, Friday, May 30th, Postmaster W. H. Stearns announced on Thursday afternoon. The office will be open Saturday afternoons during the summer months and will close on Wednesday afternoons in order to be in harmony with the summer closing of the merchants who will close their places of business on A\ r ednesday afternoons instead of W Aursdays as heretofore. Backing the President A number of Tryonites, business men, clerks and housewives sent a telegram to President Roose velt last Saturday stating that they backed him 100 per cent and assured him of their support in a demand for freedom of the seas and aid to Britain. Army rations now provide a great improvement over similar rations issued to U. S. soldiers during the previous six periods of militarization, beginning with the Revolutionary War. 51.50 Year in the Caroliuas TRYON, N. C., THURSDAY, MAY 29, 1941 Kiwanis Plans June Convention for Atlanta, Ga. Coming South for the first time since 1931 when Miami was host, Kiwanis International will gath er in Atlanta, Georgia, for a five day convention June 15-19. Hotel assignments pouring ' into the Georgia capital indicate that the meeting may be the largest in Kiwanis history. Estimates place the probable attendance at 6,000, including some 2,000 ladies and five or six hundred children. Each of 61 Georgia Kiwanis Clubs has been assigned to one of the 28 visiting districts of the United States and Canada to as sume responsibility for extend ing true Southern hospitality throughout the five days of the convention. The incoming visi tors will be greeted at Kiwanis Information Booths located along principal highways leading into Atlanta. Committees have also been designated to welcome guests arriving by air, rail or bus. The whole state-wide organiza tion, under the general direction of District Governor Jimmy Car michael, of Marietta, Georgia, is cooperating in a plan to introduce the visitors to products of Geor gia’s soil and factories. Floral contributions in the form of famed Thomasville, Georgia, fed roses and 8,000 gladioli from Cov ington, Georgia, will help decorate convention sites. Other localities are furnishing peaches, water melons, peanuts, cantaloupes and cotton bolls. The local Atlanta club, under the leadership of President J. C.
