Est. 1-31-28 Organize Polk Cotton Stamp Committee Formation of a Cotton Samp Commitee for Polk County to co perate with the U. S. Department of Agriculture in the operation of the Supplementary Cotton Stamp Plan in this area in the relatively near future, was an nounced today by J. A. Wilson, county agricultural agent. Jchn Cowan was elected chair man of the committee. Other mem bers representative of the Cotton Trades Industry of Polk County, included: B. L. Ballenger, Miss Ophelia Shields and Tryon Bank & Trust Company. Mr. Wilson stated that the main purpose of organizing the com mittee was to assist the govern ment in helping to acquaint all retailers and wholesalers of cot ton goods in the County with the manner in which they could co operate and participate in the benefits of the program. He added that on June 12th at 7:30 o’clock in the court house a mass meeting of all store operators and their clerks, handl ing cotton products would be held. In stressing the importance of at tending this meeting, Mr. Wilson pointed out that merchants cannot accept Cotton Stamps for redemp tion by the government until they have completed a “Retailers’ Statement” form entitling them to participate.
