Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N. C., MONDAY, JUNE 9, 1941 Rogers Wins Golf Cup Carroll P. Rogers was the win ner of the Directors’ Trophy in the golf tournament held during weekend at the Tryon Coun- Club. With a handicap of 21 the Polk legislator made a score of 88, giving him a net of 67. Three players tied for second place as folows: Daniel P. Mit chell 87-18-69; Burch Arledge 'B4-15-69; Jimmy Baker, Jr., 84- 15-69. Third place was also tied: Tommy Phipps 76-6-70 and Marion Palmer 76-6-70. Twenty six men entered the tournament and it was one of the interesting events of the season. Adams-Millis Drops Decision To Beacon Mills The heavy hitting Beacon team proved too strong for Adams- Millis last Saturday afternoon at the Adams-Millis park and edged «them out 8 to 6. Whereas, North Carolina’s great farm industry is closely allied with the dairy cow and her pro ducts ; and Whereas, scientists have long recognized the high nutritional value of milk and its products, tc-wit: butter, cheese, ice cream, etc., and from youth to old age these goods occupy primary posi tion in the diet of our people as nourishing, refreshing and appe tizing and health building foods, and Whereas, .the consumption of milk in North Carolina is only .4 pint per capita per day, or ap proximately one-half of the na tional average; and Whereas, today milk and dairy products are relatively cheap and offer the most valuable econom ical diet of the average family; and . Whereas, farmers, distributors, merchants and consumers are all vitally concerned and interested in this vast agricultural indus try; Now, Therefore, I, J. Melville Broughton, Governor cf North Carolina, do hereby proclaim June as Dairy Month in this state and urge upon our entire citizen ship more consideration of the importance of the dairy industry and of the nutritional value of milk and its products as whole some, healthful, and strengthening foods for human consumption, and bring to the attention of the peo ple of the state the immense Continued on Page Two
