C., WED., JUNE 11, 1941 President Brantley Writes Os Merchants Association Meeting date of the Tryon Mer chants Association has been to the second Thursday |wtiight of this month instead of the Wednesday night. Every mer chant in Tryon, member and non member, is requested to be pres ent Thursday, June 12, at 8 p. m. The Merchants Association was, organized to encouarge and de velop the commercial interests of Tryon and Tryon trading terri tory; to bring merchants in closer touch with each other; to bate trade abuses; to disseminate trade information and encourage im proved business methods; to pro tect the public against the sale cf impure foods, short weights and measures, false advertising; to encourage employers to hire employees that live in Tryon and Tryon' trading territory; to en courage employees in Tryon to ,J;rade in Tryon to secure fair I legislation; to ‘keep a financial and credit rating of any and all persons, firms, and corporations that deal with any of its members. I am sure that everyone in Tryon and Tryon trading terri tory is proud of Tryon, of our churches, schools, libraries, thea tre and merchants. All these are an asset to our town. So when possible attend the churches in Tryon, send your children to the Tryon schools, visit the libraries for the best in reading, visit the theatre for fun and recreation and do your trading in Tryon. What kind of a town would Tryon be if we had no merchants? R. E. Brantley, Pres. Two New Teams Added To Softball League The fun of playing softball is so popular that two more local teams have been added to the Tryon Softball league and they will see action this week. Adams- Millis having a large number of athletic inclined men is putting out two teams. One will be known as Adams-Millis No. 1 and the other Adams-Millis No. 2. The other new team is headed by Bird Foster and will be known as the Bird Hunters. Other teams in the league are Kilowatters, Bush whackers and Sbumerco. The schedule for the rest cf the week is as follows: Double header today with Bushwhackers playing Adams-Millis No. 1 in the first game at 4:30 and then taking on the Bird Hunters for the nightcap at 6 o’clock. On Thursday Adams-Millis No. 2 will play Soumerco. Friday an other double-header will be play ed between Adams-Millis No. 1 and No. 2 at 4:30, to be followed by the Kilowatters playing the Bird Hunters at 6 p. m. CURB REPORTER Miss Carolyn Kelly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Kelly, who formerly operated Oak Hall hotel, was awarded the trophy for the best all around student at Hen dersonville high school gradua tion exercises on Tuesday night. Miss Kelly attended the Tryon school for one season while her parents lived here. A large num ber of her former Tryon class mates attended the commencement Continued on Page Two
