Est. 1-31-28 Creasman Gives Rainfall Record So Far his Year “Having been asked often as to shortage of rainfall for this year I am giving herewith the first five %jonths: January: rainfall 2.49; normal, 4.92; excess, minus 2.44. February: rainfall 1.54; nor mal 5.10; excess, minus 3.56. March: rainfall 5.49; normal, 6.20; excess, plus .29. April: rainfall 2.85; normal, 4.20; excess, minus 1.35. May: rainfall 1.52; normal 4.90; excess, minus 3.38. “This leaves us with a total shortage of rainfall for the five months of 14.44 inches, which is doubly serious, coming at planting time and the early growing sea son. “W. W. Creasman, “U. 9. Weather Observer.” SCOUTS TO CAMP 4 The Tryon Boy Scouts, troop 1, "will go to camp on Monday, June 16th. All Scouts will meet at Missildine’s at 8 a. m., ready to go. Transportation will be pro vided. Sixteen Scouts have signed up for camp. Work and other duties prevent more from going. SOFTBALL TODAY A double-header in softball will be played this afternoon. The Adams-Millis No. One and No. Two will play each other at 4:30. This will be followed by a game between the Kilcwatters and Bird Hunters at 6 o’clock. TRYON, N. C., FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 1941 MacDonald-Rion Miss Sara Rion, only daughter of Mrs. J. H!. Rion of Tryon and Mr. Charles H. MacDonald son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. MacDonald of Chicago, Illinois, were married on Thursday afternoon, June 12, at 4 o’clock in Columbus at the home of Mrs. H. C. Metcalf, with the Rev. D. M. McGeachy, pas tor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. The Metcalf lawn surrounded by verdant flower gardens and beautiful vistas of the mountains was tfnosen for the wedding, but uncertain weather changed plans and it was held in the large liv ing room where guests lined the walls and balcony. Madonna lil ies, gardenias, baby’s breath and other flowers decorated the home. The large fireplace was made into an attractive background of flowers for the setting. Miss Frances De Villa Ball at the piano and Miss Elizabeth Thomas with the violin, played the nuptial music. The ushers were Bert Metcalf, Brownlow Martin and Dan Rion, all dressed in white. The minister; the bridegroom; and the best man, the bridegroom’s brother, Robert MacDonald, of Chicago, entered; then the brides maids, all wearing long net dress es with large picture hats to match, tied with velvet. Miss Lillian Thompson’s costume was of yellow; Miss Louise Moore was dressed in aqua, and Miss Jess : e Byers in pink. The maid-of-honor Miss Elizabeth Chedester of Mon treat, N.
