Est. 1-31-28 Wilcox, Sayre, Phipps, Flynn Win in Blind Bogey Contest The Blind Bogey golf tourna- held at the Tryon Country "‘Ulub during the weekend resulted in ties for first and second places. F. S. Wilcox shot 82; had a han dicap of 12 which gave him a net of 80. Edward Sayre shot an 80 with no handicap. Tommy Phipps refused a handicap and shot 76 for a net of 76. Lefty Flynn took a handicap of 10, and shot an 86 giving him a net of 76. Twenty one players entered the event. Farmers Federation to Hold Polk County Picnic The Polk County Farmers Fed eration picnic will be held on Tuesday, July 15th, at Columbus court house, according to an an nouncement by James G. K. Mc- president of the federation. Music, races, various contests, tugs-of-war, short speeches and a singing convention for choirs and quartets will fill the all-day urogram. There will be a basket lunch at noon, and the Farmers federation will supply free water melons and lemonade. All farm families in Polk coun ty are cordially invited to set aside this day and attend the picnic. Musicians and singers are particularly requested to come and perform. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of all contests, to the best mbsicians and singers, and to the winning choirs and quartets. $1.50 Year in the Caroliuas TRYON, N. C., MONDAY, JUNE 16, 1941 According to a United Press correspondent J. S. Massenburg is no longer secretary of State Relief organization, but he is ex pected to be given another posi tion .... John W. Artz, former Polk County Agent and president dent of the Tryon Kiwanis club, was married on Saturday to Miss Gussie Louise Eure. The bride’s brother, S'ecretary of State Thad Eure, was head usher; Miss Flor ence Cox, former Polk County home Demonstration Agent at the time John was here, was one of the bridesmaids .... Tryon weather is nice these days. North ern visitors here during a warm April .can’t believe it. The offi cial high for Saturday was 84 degrees and the low was 60. The high for Sunday was 83 and the low 57. Warm enough in the day tc enpoy swimming and cool enough at night for a blanket . . . Ralph C. Erskine, who gave an interesting talk last Sunday at 7:15 over Greenville, S. C., WFBC radio station telling about Revo lutionary times of upper South Carolina and the fight of Morgan at Cowpens, etc., will talk next Sunday at the same time over the same station about Tryon and Tryon Mountain.
