Est. 1-31-28 Columbus Children Collecting Aluminum for Defense Reading in the Tryon Daily Bulletin about the movement of k the Tryon Kiwanis club to join v groups all over the nation in col lecting old aluminum which is now needed for the manufacture of airplanes, 14-year-old Cleo Jor dan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Jordan of Columbus and a group of young friends of the Kiddies Reading Club, have al ready started collecting aluminum and piling it up in the Jordan yard to have it ready when the Kiwanis, Rotary, Civic committee calls for it. The present plan is for a committtee of the Kiwanis, one of the Rotary and three com mitteemen not members of either club to get together and form one central committee to handle the patriotic project. C. J. Lynch is chairman cf the Kiwanis com mittee. Day Singing Sunday At Columbus School / Mayor John R. Burgess re ports that there will be all day singing and dinner on the ground at the Stearns school campus on Sunday Quartets and choirs from adjoining counties will participate. Mill Spring Saturday Instead of Today The Epworth League play, “The Rugged Road,” will be presented on Saturday night, June 28th, at Mill Ssring school auditorium, un der the direction of Miss Vera Edwards. C., FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 1941 TRYON WINS IN GOLF FROM SHELBY TEAM The Tryon Country Club golf team defeated the Shelby Coun try Club team in a Piedmont league tournament on the Tryon links Thursday afternoon by a score of 11% to 3V2. Bible School Commencement At 8 O’clock Tonight The Baptist Bible school com mencement will be held tonight at 8 o’clock at the church. During the two weeks’ session the enroll ment had increased from 38 to 47. At the close of the services re freshments will be served by the faculty and by Mrs. J. W. Tay lor, Mrs. James B. Hester and Mrs. W. Y. Wilkins.
