Est. 1-31-28 Blois Resigns from Soumerco To Take Job At Green River Douglas S. Blois has resigned from the Southern Mercerizing company to accept a position as secretary of the Green River Malls at Tuxedo, effective August Ist. Mr. Blois has been a leader in the business and civic life of Tryon for over 17 years. He has been in the lumber and insur ance business and was cashier of the Peoples Bank & Trust Co. for several years. Mr. Blois has served as presi dent of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce, president, and secre tary of the Tryon Rotary Club, and an officer of the American Legion. For many years he has served as secretary of the Tryon School Board and as a member of the Tryon S'aluda school dis trict board, and was last year elected chairman of the Tryon Township Democratic precinct. He is a vestryman of the Epis copal church, and has always been one of the valuable key men who sacrificed personal time in putting over projects for the community welfare and entertainment. It may have been ball games for the "youngsters, a dance for the grown ups, a trip to Raleigh, a meeting here and a meeting there, no mat ter what—he did the job for the good of the community. Tryon will miss him and his family and are glad that their new home is only 21 miles away. Chairman Julian Hester reports that 59 men registered for the selective service draft in Polk County on Monday. $1.50 Year in the Carolinas TRYON, N, C., WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 1941 CURB REPORTER *. . . The weather on Monday was .81 wet, 89 hot and 68 cool; for Tuesday it was 88 hot and 68 cooler and only .04 wet .... Too bad some of the crushed disinter grated rock now being moved from the Oak Hall bank can’t be piled up and saved for a final coating to cover up the red mud surface later. Makes a nice top soil derssing ..... The buses are now stopping across the rail road track near the depot. Passen gers can still get their tickets and wait at Missildine’s ..... Scout. Executive R. M. Schiele showed some interesting motion pictures of Boy Scout work at the Tryon Kiwanis Club on Tuesday when Fred Swann, Jr., had charge of the program. Any wide-awake American seeing that picture couldn’t help being a booster and worker for the Boy Scouts. Every community no matter how smail needs at least one Boy Scout. The boy who drowned in Lake Adger would have been saved if he had been a Scout or if a Stout had been in the boat. Scouting teaches a boy preparedness for life .... Manager George Ei. Bell of the Postal Telegraph office has a long potato vine growing from one potato in a jar in his office ....
