Est. 1-31-28 MURDER BY DROWNING CHARGED AGAINST MAN Gary Copeland, of Greer, S. C., Pt is being held in the Polk County jail charged with causing the death of George W. Taylor, who was drowned in Lake Adger on Saturday, June 28th. Sheriff Hines stated this morn- j ing that the drowned boy’s father, Guy Taylor, of Lynn, consulted Solicitor Clarence 0. Ridings, and upon his advice, swore out the warrant charging Copeland with “murder by drowning.” Young Taylcr, who accompan ied his father and a party on a fishing trip to Lake Adger, it is said, was standing in the boat and he and Copeland were scuffling and young Taylor became over balanced, falling into the lake drowning before help could be cf any go^d. v Sheriff H nes stated that no bond had been made for the re ■- lease of Copeland. Moss became intoxicated, it is said, and that made him get in somebody else’s car near Oak Hall. The intoxica tion made him drive reckless and the car hit the bank near Sunny dale. He didn’t have a driver’s,, license. He is new in Columbus jail. Arrest made by Chief Kiser and Patrolman Flynn. $1.50 Year in the Carolinas TUESDAY, JULY 8, 1941 TRYON, N, C., NEWS ITEM Polk County’s Chapter of the American Red Cross has on hand for these who wish to do Red Cross work unbleached muslin for operating gowns and bed shirts, goods for children’s dresses, yarn for children’s sweaters and knit suits, and sock yarn. Sock yarn may be gotten from Miss Ruth Nance at the Blue Ridge Weav ers or by telephoning to Miss Mae Irene Flentve. The Women’s Clubs in Polk County are engaged in Red Cross work and Mss Flentye together with Miss Min nie Lee Garrison, County Home Demonstration Agent, is visiting each of eleven of these clubs in the interest of the Red Cross. BASEBALL WEDNESDAY The Adams-Millis baseball team will play Drayton Mills nine on Wednesday at 4:30 at Adams- Millis ball park in Trycn. Dray ton MTls is a member of the Upper Sbuth Carolina league and is the top ranking team in this league, and is expected to give the fans some interesting baseball on Wednesday. The stores being closed clerks and employers are expected to attend. GOLFERS AT LAKE LURE The Tryon Golf team will go to Lake Lure on Wednesday af ternoon to compete in the regular weekly oturnament of the Pied mont Golf Association tournament. U. _S.
