Est. 1-31-28 POLK COUNTY BOY WINS 4-H SCHOLARSHIP One of the delegates from Polk County to the 4-H, Short Course kt State College this year will obe Joe Stockton, of Landrum, S. C., Route One. He was named the outstanding 4-H Club boy in the County, and the honor car ries with it a scholarship to the Short Course, awarded by the Chilean Nitrate Educational Bu reau, of which A. G. Floyd of Raleigh is State director. The scholarship pays all expenses and is worth $5.50. The 1941 State 4-H Short Course at State College wil lopen with registration on Monday, July 28th, and win continue through a morning assembly period on Saturday, August 2nd. L. R. Harrill, State 4-H Club Leader, and Miss Frances MacGregor, as sistant State Club Leader, have announced a complete program the event. Governor J. M. Broughton will speak on the Achievement Day program Friday morning, Aug. 1, and Dr. Frank Porter Graham, president of the Greater Univer sity of North Carolina, will ad dress the young people on Wed nesday morning. A Citizenship Ceremonial will feature the Thurs day morning session, during which J. O. Howard of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, Washing ton, D. C., will lead a panel dis cussion of “The Responsibility of Rural Youth as Citizens.â€~ Dean I. 0. CCC Men Wanted Now Says Miss Tyler Another call for CCC men be tween the ages of 17 and 24 years old has been made to Polk County says Miss Ina T. Tyler, superintendent of public welfare. Any man between the above ages who has never been in camp before, and all former members who have been out of j camp for three months and have an honorable discharge, will be accepted. BASEBALL TODAY Adams-Millis and Drayton Mills will play a regular baseball game this afternoon at the Adams-Millis ball park at 4:30. These two teams are expected to render a good account of themselves to the interest of the fans. SOFTBALL TODAY, TOO A double-header softball pro gram is scheduled at Harmon Field this afternoon. The first game will be played at 4:30 be tween the Adams-Millis No. 2 i team and the Kilowatts.
